Hammam is a woven fabric that has evolved from the historical Turkish hammam bath tradition going back 600 years. They were widely used as a wrap when men and women in the Ottoman era were washing in the public hammam baths to cover their bodies. Now, they have moved beyond the boundaries of hammam and have become trendy bath, beach, and travel towels high in demand. In the UK, they are commonly known as Hammam Towels and in Turkey they are known as Peshtemal towels.
Hammam towels have a very distinctive stripy pattern with hand-finished tassels on the fringes which give them a truly authentic character. Cotton and Olive hammam towels are 100% pure cotton. Linen and cotton blends are also sought-after. The average size of the hammam bath sheet is 90 x 180 cm and the hand towel is 50 x 90 cm. And the average weight is 250-300 grams. Due to their flat-woven nature, these hammam towels are absolutely lightweight and compact to pack & carry. They have made a name for themselves for being very absorbent, compact and fast drying. With each wash, hammam towels will get softer and more absorbent.
The Turkish hammam towels are very versatile and durable. Their compactness allows them to be used on various occasions as a picnic | beach blanket, sofa throw & cover, children’s blanket, tablecloth, shawl, or sarong. Hammam bathrobes made out of hammam cloth are also excellent bath and beachwear with their fast-drying properties and lightness.

I recently discovered Olive & Cotton’s elite pestemal towels and have been so impressed with the sheer luxury of them. They have certainly a more spa-like quality to them. Olive & Cotton’s range is much more than beach towels. I would say that these would make wonderful summer guest towels or even, just something special to spoil yourself with! The white towel is lovely.

I had already used the trendy peshtemals quite a lot and had the Anatolia towels for holidays because of their quick drying and lightweight properties and had been delighted with them – I had also eyed up these on the website to get when we redid our bathroom!
Well, bathroom redone and these installed along with the matching handtowels – they are just gorgeous!
As well as looking wonderful they are lovely to use and like their thinner sisters they are quick to dry, wash well and are great to wrap up in.

A wonderful absorbent bath towel. This towel is beautifully made- I love the tassels. It feels great to wrap yourself in after a shower/bath. It looks stunning in the bathroom- so much nicer than thick conventional bath towels which take an age to dry. I cannot praise this product enough. If you love style and want a contemporary, chilled look in your bathroom then this is the towel for you! Enjoy….
It is recommended to wash this product at a gentle cycle programme, max 40C. It is important to wash it at a low-spin program to protect the tassels. Washing tasseled products in a wash bag may further help keep tassels intact
Try not to use the fabric conditioner
We don’t recommend tumble-drying. If it is preferred for the sake of convenience, we only recommend low-heat tumble-drying. The best practice is to leave it to air-dry. It is much better for the environment as well as for your energy bills
Keep them away from strong, direct heat while drying
